The Healthy Way Of Dealing With Marital Disagreement

You cannot avoid conflict or bickering when you are married. It’s a normal part of any relationship. Because a couple is made up of two individuals, marital disagreement will be inevitable no matter how strong the bond between the two people is.

A More Positive Approach To Marital Disagreement

Despite this, there are always ways to handle marital disagreement in a more positive light. Since it’s something that cannot be avoided, you and your partner don’t have much of a choice unless you want your issues to take a toll on your relationship. Whenever you get into a dispute, try doing the following:

Have An Agreement

Before any kind of conflict arises, it’s best if you and your partner talk about how to best handle an issue. It’s ideal to do this so when the time comes, both of you don’t need to guess what the other is thinking. All you have to do is focus on the resolution.

For example: Even when you’re fighting, you agree to sleep in the same bed. Or, you can both agree to give each other a hug right before you go to bed. This should be mandatory, and you can make up any rule or agreement you like.

Pick Your Battles

You win some, you lose some. This should be your motto. It won’t be helpful if you always fight about anything and everything. There should be one of you who is willing to step down.

Stop Playing Games

Mean what you say and say what you mean. Don’t beat around the push and expect that your partner will eventually understand how you feel without talking to each other. It’s not going to happen.

For example: If you can’t sleep at night because of your partner’s incessant snoring, tell him or her in the morning that he or she needs to do something about it. This is better rather than staying quiet and showing that you are in an extremely bad mood.
