Asian Date | Asian Model Embraces Natural Beauty

Asian Date: Why Is This Asian Model Going Bare?

Despite the different cultures found in the continent of Asia, Asians’ idea of beauty seems to have a typical pattern – flawless skin that looks bare, and natural facial features that are slightly defined. This pattern is most prominent in the country of Korea, Asian Date discovers, where plastic surgery is common, and various skincare and beauty trends are born every month.

Asian Date Presents A Model That Went Against It All

In Korea specifically, society adds extra pressure on women to look as good as they possibly can. There’s that worry of being judged by society because you look different from what is considered beautiful. Asian Date even found a reality show where participants are scanned and then changed surgically.

Korean women do want a bare-looking face that looks very natural, but they achieve this with makeup – and a lot of it.

Meet Yoon Young Bae

Yoon Young Bae is a popular Korean model who first appeared on the Prada runway. She has freckles and spots on her face that many Asians would call “imperfections”. In an interview with Vogue, she said, “When I started modeling, I was told to get rid of them, but I said they make me happy, so why would I want to?”

She dares to go bare! Despite her “imperfections”, she has walked for Chloé, Dior, and Loewe, proving that her freckles might not be imperfections after all. They helped her stand out from the crowd.

Other Korean models, like Sora Choi and Min Jung Kim, are apparently showing off their natural facial marks too. All of these ladies might be following in the footsteps of Devon Aoki – a model turned actress, who appeared in movies like “Sin City” and “2 Fast 2 Furious”.

Are Asian Beauty Standards Experiencing A Shift?

It is possible that the Asian beauty standards might be undergoing a change. Having all the influential Korean models donning the natural side of their beauty on runways, and embracing their spots and imperfections publicly, we are looking at a more open view of what the Asian Beauty should be.
